Have you ever made a giant mess in your room and your mom or dad refused to let you come out of there until you cleaned it up? A group of scientists in Switzerland are playing clean-up but it's not because of a messy room.
The Swiss Space Center is launching a satellite called CleanSpace One that will clean house in space. The satellite cost $11 million and is currently being built in Lausanne, Switzerland at the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology.
According to NASA, there are more than 500,000 pieces of debris currently in orbit in space. These include things like used up rocket parts, other satellites and chunks of debris. They aren't just in space, but they also are moving fast enough that if they came into contact with a satellite or spacecraft, they could do a whole lot of damage to it.
CleanSpace One, being called a janitor satellite, will most likely be ready to launch in about three or four years. We are glad somebody is finally going to clean up, up there!
